SkinTalks with Brittney

Hey there, SkinTalks readers! My name is Brittney, and I am a skincare specialist at Korean Skincare. I am a passionate and dedicated graduate cosmetologist. I enjoyed doing this, but I was very curious about how the skin care world worked behind the scenes. That's when I found Korean Skincare! In this blog you will get to know me better, I will answer some personal related skin care questions but first, let me introduce something new on our website!

Personal Skincare Advice!

We will do 1:1 video calls with everyone who want to learn more about skincare and what is best for their skin type and concern. Do you want to know more about it? Visit our Personal Skincare Advice page here and schedule an appointment! Now let's start to answer some questions!

How did you first get into skincare?

I myself used to suffer a lot from acne and I could not find a solution for this. This is why I was searching for an answer by myself. I soon realised that my breakouts wouldn’t just go away over time. This started my journey for better skin, where I spent hours reading articles and watching videos that explained everything about the skin and all kinds of ingredients. I soon found out that I actually found this very interesting, and so I started studying it! I get super excited about skincare and love guiding others on their journey to their best skin possible!

What is your favourite product of Korean Skincare?

That's a hard one! I love a lot of Korean skincare products! However, if I have to choose, it's The TIA'M My Signature C Source or the ANUA Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner. I really can't decide between these two products, I’m sorry, okay!

TIA'M - My Signature C Source

In the TIA'M My Signature C Source there is Vitamin C and for me, Vitamin C is my fave ingredient. It's great for your skin because it has some awesome benefits:

1. Fights signs of ageing: It helps reduce wrinkles and keep your skin looking firm and youthful.

2. Brightens skin tone: Vitamin C can fade dark spots and even out your complexion for a radiant glow.

3. Protects against sun damage: While it's not a replacement for sunscreen, Vitamin C can give your skin some extra

defence against harmful UV rays.

4. Speeds up healing: It helps heal wounds and fade acne scars by promoting the growth of new skin cells.

5. Soothes inflammation: If you have acne, redness, or sensitive skin, Vitamin C can help calm things down.

6. Improves texture: Regular use of Vitamin C can make your skin smoother and softer by getting rid of dead skin cells.

Just make sure to choose a good Vitamin C serum or cream with a stable formula, and don't forget to wear sunscreen too! Your skin will thank you.

Anua - Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner

Let’s now talk about the Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner! This product was really the best for my acne prone skin. If you’re suffering from redness, acne, and closed comedones, this may be your S.O.S skin saver. For me, it worked very well for my inflammations and my sensitive skin loved this product!

Keep in mind that all skins are different, and that everyone can react differently to the products.

What do you get asked the most?

I notice there are a lot of questions about hyperpigmentation. I then explain that it is difficult to make hyperpigmentation disappear completely. However, you can reduce it! Ingredients that can address hyperpigmentation are:

• Vitamin C

• Niacinamide

• Retinol

• AHA/BHA

• Most important: Sunscreen

What is your ‘love your skin’ moment?

I absolutely love doing my skincare routine before bed, no matter how tired I am or how late it is. It's such a satisfying feeling to cleanse my face, apply my favourite products, and slip into bed with fresh, nourished skin. Plus, I always set the mood with some relaxing music in the background. There's nothing better than waking up in the morning with soft and hydrated skin.. It's my little self-care ritual that I never skip!

What product(s) are always on the go with you?

One product I always carry with me is the RNW Ceramide Mist! I myself suffer from dry skin, this mist gives me a huge moisture boost when my skin needs it. A facial mist is very underrated. You can use a mist during your skincare routine, but you can also spray it on your face throughout the day wherever you go! I even do it over my makeup, and it doesn't run! However, keep in mind that it is not a setting spray, so it will not set your makeup.

What would you advise to new skincare users?

Start simple! If you are new to skincare, I would advise you not to create a 10-step routine right away. Your skin needs time to get used to new products, if you apply too many new ingredients it is possible that your skin may react to this (redness, small bumps etc.)

What is a common skincare myth?

I think the most common myth is: the higher the SPF the better. Many people believe that the higher the SPF of sunscreen, the better the protection. This isn’t entirely true; SPF 30 means you are protected 30 times longer than if you were outside with no sun protection. The higher the SPF, the longer you can wait to reapply, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you are better protected.

On the topic of sunscreen, we want to remind you that you should always wear sunscreen when spending time in the sun, even if it’s the middle of winter and overcast. For everyday use, SPF 15 is a good barrier of protection. However, if you plan on being outdoors for more than just a few minutes, we suggest using SPF 30 and reapplying as needed. Remember to cover any exposed areas and wear protective clothing such as long sleeves, sunglasses, and wide-brimmed hats when possible.
